Speech Language Pathologists work to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive communication, and swallowing disorders in children and adults. In addition to all of the effective interventions Speech Therapists use, it is becoming more common in today’s world, to utilize apps to facilitate the growth of your child’s speech and language skills. There are apps for anything and everything from ordering groceries, reading the news, glancing at new photos, the possibilities are endless.
Applications are not only educational, but fun and motivating to children of all ages and abilities. They can be used to track progress and celebrate success. It’s important to know apps do not take the place of a Speech Therapy session, and may not fit in to all treatment plans, but applications may be used in certain degrees to facilitate a variety of speech and language skills which include:
Articulation (Formulating Speech Sounds)
Expressive Language (Communicating Ideas/Topics)
Receptive Language (Understanding Ideas/Topics)
Pragmatics (Social Skills)
Augmentative Communication (Communicating via Tablet )
Literacy (Reading/Comprehension)
